Susan Boyle sings her way to second place
LONDON — She dreamed a dream, and it very nearly came true.
But Susan Boyle's reality-show journey finished Saturday with a second-place finish in the finals of "Britain's Got Talent," an ending that didn't fit the fairy tale.

Instead of the 48-year-old Internet sensation, an exuberant dance troupe called Diversity took the 100,000-pound ($159,000) prize and will perform for Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Variety Show.
Boyle paced the stage as the hosts named the top three of the 10 final acts and looked almost relieved when her name was called as the runner-up. She recovered in time to graciously praise the dancers.
"The best people won," Boyle said. "They're very entertaining. Lads, I wish you all the best."
For her performance, Boyle wore a modest but glamorous
floor-length gown and chose to go back to the song that rocketed her into the international spotlight: "I Dreamed a Dream," from the musical "Les Miserables."

fairy tale:一般是指大人以故事形式創作的幻想性故事。
runner-up:第二名
(Earliest reference is 1842. The origin of the word is from dog racing (coursing). It refers to the dog who takes the second prize, losing only the final course to the winner. In the early 1900's it was used to refer to a person who runs up bids at an auction. I wouldn't cite this as a possible origin considering it appeared in print some fifty years after the reference above. It is true that the generally accepted origin of the dog-racing track is a theory, which means it's unproven, however, in the absence of any evidence aside from the earliest reference mentioned above, we can safely assume that this is, indeed, the origin of the word "runner up.")

reading response
If you would see Susan Boyle on the show, she was mocked from the shallow people. But when she started singing everyone (including we probably) got a wake up call and realized we should never judge a book by it's cover. We obviously haven't learnt a thing from that video.
Although she got second , she still face courteous.
Finally I don't think she was that ugly, she has a powerful voice and simple heart.

Six weeks ago, no one had heard of Susan Boyle. She is a forty-seven year old unemployed worker who lives with her cat in s small village. Fortunately, the truth is Susan Boyle wows everyone in the world.

Is Susan Boyle ugly? No, she is not, and we are!
Why many people are so shocked when “ugly” women can do things, however, Men are allowed to be ugly and talented.

DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER!
I truly believe that many people judge books by their cover even though we have been told not to, time and time again. However, this is the most beautiful and amazing story that proves that we don’t have to look like Paris Hilton or Beyonce or Ashlee Simpson to have talent. Susan Boyle has never been kissed, and lives alone with her cat but she has an amazing voice. It proves ANYONE can be the next Susan Boyle. Anyone can have talent no matter what appearance.

Susan Boyle opens my eyes and made me realize that everyone should believe in their dreams, no matter what. Even if you're old man, ugly woman, or a little kid, no one can keep you from your dreams, so we need to try our best to reach for the stars. Who knows where it might take you!It is still a long way to go, Susan Boyle! Of course, me too!

B
Hi Lin
Yes, we can watch some Taiwan’s TV program on Cable TV and now free TV in Thailand on air a “Hot Shot” every Saturday but I’ve never seen it. I really like Wong Cyndi, she’s so cute.
By the way In Thailand we have many beautiful beaches and many shopping center you can window shopping every day at here eieiei (likes me) . I have a plan to diving at south past of Thailand on the end of this year (Hi-season to go to the beach at here). The best period to go to the beach is November until March. Almost of Thai are people friendly (eieiei).
I’m a lawyer the boring job when we compare with game design hahahaha.
The last I wish you will have a good time in Japan . I have many Japanese friends because I work for Japanese Company.
Take to you later.
bye & take care
wawah

A
Hello Wawah,
I do not watch “Hot Shot” , too. I seldom watch TV in my free time.
As a graduate student, I am always busy on writing some essays and participate in the seminars.
In the southern Taiwan, there is also a beautiful beach, “Kenting “.
Kenting is a place for you to see the azure sky and the wide sea. It is a wonderful traveling place for you to swim and dive.
Last summer I traveled over there and enjoyed my vacation.

There is a museum nearby Kenting. It is National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. It has a very long channel tunnel (pic1) & a big aquarium (pic2) !
I am planning to visit this museum again on this coming summer.

Where do you plan to dive?
Would you please introduce that place for me?

You are a lawyer? Sounds a cool job!
In our society, most of Taiwanese respect this kind of occupations, lawyer or doctor.
I had worked for an attorney. The job is like an assistant.
Unfortunately that job is not a designer!
Can you speak Japanese?
What do you think about the Japanese?
I don’t have Japanese friend.

By the way, if you have a chance to travel in Taiwan, I hope I could visit you and invite you for a dinner together. J

Take care!
Looking forward to hearing from you.

B
Hi Lin
You made me want to go to Taiwan but now I did not have plan to go there. I have a plan to go to Hong kong and China. However I will consider to have a dinner with you in Taiwan hahaha just kidding.
South past of Thai has many place to go to diving " Phuket island" quite famous if you want to go there I can introduce some guest house to you. I'm backpacker so I prefer guest house than hotel. I attached many picture of Thailand to you eieiei.( I took them when I made a trip).
"Similan Island" is the best place to have a scuba diving trip.
"North - east" of Thailand I really enjoy this trip I went to hiking with my friends.
"Rafting" I when to rafting in the north past of Thailand I really love it.
By the way for Janpanese peron that I know I think they do not normal japanese ^-^ so maybe I cannot told you too much about them.
However when you say something to Janpanese you must do following your word they belive in word likes a contract . They alway concern to say the bad wording , and alway keep many thing in their mine so that made Janpanese quite serious.
I cannot speak Japanese , Can you ?
Talk to you later
wawah
PS If I cannot come to Taiwan you can come to Thailand and we can have a dinner.

A
Hello Wawah~
Planning to Hong Kong and China for work or
to go vacationing ?
I don’t have any foreign friend, you are the first one! So let me have a imagination space. (hahaha)You made a lot of friends in the penpal world?

Thanks for your introduce, it’s so beautiful made me want to visit!

By the way, you also had been a backpacker? It’s hard to woman, not right? Where have you gone to when you are a backpacker?

I’m learning Japanese for prepare to be exchange student. Japanese is too difficult to learn! As far as I know, Japanese is punctilious to be true to one's promises. Do you think the Japanese is difficult to be close?

Take care!
Looking forward to hearing from you.

B
Hi Lin
I would like to go to Hong Kong and China for vacation.
Now you have other foreign friend already so that mean I’m your imagination.
Right!!! I have many friends in my friend list at penpal but I do not talk to all of them. --! I want to talk with everybody but sometimes they just talk with me only one or two times or someone just want to talk only love or sex that made me bored. However I also have many good conversations.
By the way Backpacker is not so hard for me. I and my friend have been to Vietnam last year and this year we went to Laos .However I do concern about safety for every where we visited because I and my friend are women and the important thing is my friends quite beautiful (hahaha). Normally I will surf the internet for the information before I go .The travel website will say about what I should do, what I should not do. ( we can find even what kind of shoes we should wear at Vietnam eiei).
Lin I will cheer up you to learn the Japanese, nothing difficult if we try.
I always open my heart for everyone so I think if we try we can touch them even though they are Japanese.
bye & Take care
